10600 Iorna – videoclip – Director: Ence Fedele – Film Production: White Garage

In an era defined by anxiety and uncertainty, music becomes more than ever a beacon of understanding and comfort. RadioSabir knows this well and demonstrates it with their latest music video for the song “10600 iorn (days)” – produced by the independent White Garage – a song that explores solitude and self-discovery through the story of a woman celebrating her thirtieth birthday in solitude.

The music video draws inspiration from the art of Cindy Sherman, who with her “self-portraits” has always investigated the complexity of female identity, and in particular her Untitled Film Stills, published by MoMA in New York in 2003, but dating back to the mid-1970s, a time of great transformations, like our own. Untitled Film Stills (1977-1980) is a series of black and white photographs, drawing inspiration from film to represent the roles of women within American culture. This series has greatly inspired the critique of the various ways in which women shape their identity and the consequent role of mass media in their lives, and here it is used as a source of inspiration to represent a situation common to many women – the loneliness of the 30s, too often depicted in conventional clichés. Sherman, in her work, masters these codes of representation and behavior, appropriates them to understand and inscribes them on her body; to distance herself, she acts them out. Through photography, with a deliberately kitsch and sometimes grotesque style, the artist explores the theme of women’s identity and shows how much the codes of representation depend on social norms and, conversely, how such norms are supported and reinforced by figurative languages. The entire work does not want to be a faithful imitation, but rather a legacy of inspiration, in which, thanks to an important artistic contribution, it is possible to deconstruct an obsolete narrative to represent, through an audiovisual product, a different reality, capable of showing women in contemporary society.

The video follows the protagonist from her solitary awakening, to a walk in complete solitude, to her return home overwhelmed by despair, until her decision to leave with a suitcase. At the end of her journey, she finds hope and redemption in a venue, a meeting place between art and music, where RadioSabir plays.

Like the band itself, the music video is a journey that crosses various forms of art and cultures, “from Simeto to Mississippi, in the souths of the world to make us understand”. It is a declaration of identity that is deeply rooted in Sicilian tradition, and then projects itself towards a global dialogue, mixing blues rhythms, rural sounds, and contemporary electronics.

RadioSabir is not just a band, but a language, a bridge between past and future, between Sicily and the world. In “10600 iorn”, as in their other works, music becomes a vehicle to tell universal stories in a language understandable to all, because, as they say, “we are Sicilians, borderline, no longer African and not entirely European”, but above all eager to communicate.

In a constantly evolving world, where identities are increasingly fluid and borders increasingly blurred, “10600 iorn” comes as an anthem of hope, art, and the possibility of finding oneself through dialogue and sharing. It is an invitation to resist, to evolve, and, above all, to communicate.
